A heartfelt thank you goes out to Paul Bierch and Caroline Niesche for all that they give back to RS EDEN. Paul graduated from Eden House in 2009, but he returns to mentor at meetings every Sunday night. “I love it here: both what they do and everything that it represents. For me, recovery is more than simply the process of getting off drugs. It is the process of changing behavior and mindset,” said Paul.
Since their own recovery, the two have worked to help others get through the process. They give back through RS EDEN and also speak in area prisons and halfway houses. “We want to connect with people who are in the same types of situations that we were in. Recovery takes a lot of work—continual work on body and mind. Caroline and I both know how difficult it is to battle your own thoughts and fears,” said Paul.
Big plans are underway. Paul and Caroline will be opening Will Work for Recovery, a place for men and women in recovery. They are currently looking at a space downtown Minneapolis. According to Paul, “Initially, the place will be a space for mentorship groups to meet, but the near future it will incorporate a functioning gym and other features to address the needs of the whole person—mind, body, and spirit. We want people to get healthy in every sense.”
